Buying Refurbished Electronics: What to Check First
Battery health, screen condition, and functional testing — the practical checklist before buying a refurbished phone or laptop.
· 5 min read

Refurbished doesn't automatically mean tested to the same standard everywhere — practices vary widely between sellers. Ask specifically what testing was performed: does it cover battery health, charging, cameras, buttons, and connectivity, or just a power-on check?
For phones and laptops alike, battery health is one of the most meaningful indicators of remaining useful life, since batteries degrade with use regardless of how well the rest of the device was cared for. If a seller can share battery health figures, that's a good sign of a more thorough refurbishment process.
Screen and housing condition affect resale value even when they don't affect function, so factor cosmetic grade into your budget separately from functional condition.
